Molly Sellors is co-founder and Director of Hoolan Ensemble, a Glasgow-based collective dedicated to commissioning new music and collaborating across art forms. Her work with the ensemble brings together musicians, composers, filmmakers and multidisciplinary artists to create performances that explore contemporary questions and reach audiences beyond traditional concert settings.
Molly leads projects from their initial concept through to performance, shaping their artistic direction, commissioning new work and developing creative partnerships. Under her direction, Hoolan has presented work in settings ranging from cinemas to shops such as IKEA Glasgow.
The ensemble’s Divided Nations brought together five composers from Iran, Lebanon, Sweden, France and the USA. Premiered at IKEA Glasgow, the project explored connection and division through themes including cultural identity, digital alienation and the ways political power can fragment communities.
Hoolan’s Le Regard celebrated women in surrealist silent cinema, touring Scotland and Northern England with newly commissioned live scores. The project received the 2024 Write Start Award, established by actor Sam Heughan, and included the commissioning of Foreign Body, directed by Sára Ní Eithir with music by Nancy Johnstone. Molly served as Executive Producer of the film, which was double-nominated for Best UK Short at the 2025 Raindance Film Festival, the UK’s largest independent film festival.
Her current work includes developing Divided Nations with interdisciplinary artist Tarlan Lotfizadeh, exploring Tarlan’s lived experience of displacement through the metaphor of a lighthouse. Combining music, poetry, film, lighting and movement, the collaboration continues Molly’s interest in creating performances where music and other art forms are developed together, opening up new possibilities for both artists and audiences.
